The Classroom
[This will be updated according to the school and available facilities. There will be diagrams of both the traditional art classroom and the computer lab.]
Projects
We will thoroughly cover the procedures for turning in assignments and the structure of critiques in class. This is simply an overview of how it works.
- There will be two kinds of projects – traditional and digital.
- Most of the projects in this class will be digital and some of them will be printed. [Depending on available facilities.]
- Projects will be turned in for presentation on the day of the class critique.
- Traditional projects are simply handed in.
- Remember to include your name and class period on each piece of traditional material you hand in!
- Digital projects will have some or all of the following:
- Source files
- These will be submitted to your student folder on the network drive at the beginning of class
- Research and thumbnails
- Source files
- Final design – printed and mounted as instructed in class (note: not all digital designs will be printed)
- Traditional projects are simply handed in.
Class Critiques

Leo Bersamina’s Art 126 beginning painting class have a final critique. Diablo Valley College
- Student work will be displayed (digitally or traditionally) for review.
- Each student will fill out an evaluation sheet, scoring each design based on visual impact and design principles, along with some comments about the design. We’ll discuss this process in class.
- We’ll then have a group discussion about each work wherein students will give their professional and constructive comments. I’ll also point out what worked and what could’ve worked better about each piece.
Part of your grade depends on both your attendance and participation during critiques. You will learn a LOT from these, so make sure you do not miss them, even if you’re not ready to turn your project in!
